Regulatory position
Cofacil is an independent legal-support, advocacy, governance and problem-solving consultancy. It is not a firm of solicitors and is not authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Cofacil provides assistance with non-reserved legal and practical matters within an agreed scope. It does not conduct litigation, exercise rights of audience or undertake other reserved legal activities unless the service is provided through an appropriately authorised professional.
Where a matter requires a solicitor, barrister, regulated immigration adviser, authorised claims-management provider, financial adviser or another regulated professional, Cofacil will explain the limitation and recommend that appropriate specialist assistance is obtained.
Services provided by an unregulated legal-services consultancy do not carry all the regulatory protections that apply when instructing an SRA-authorised law firm. The scope, status, fees and limitations of Cofacil's work will be set out in writing.
